DAVAO CITY, Aug. 21 – Thirty projects in adventure tourism-related with an aggregate cost of more than P1 billion are on upswing in Mindanao, according to profiles gathered by the provincial offices of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Regions 10 and 11.

Board of Investments (BOI) and National Economic Research and Business Assistance Center (NERBAC) in Davao showed that majority of the investments are on the pipeline and are up for business partners to cater to the adventure-seeking buffs.

BOI chief for Regions 9, 11, and 12 Engr. Gil M. Dureza said tourism developments these days have put emphasis on the inclusion of adventure-related activities within the resorts.

He added among the adventures that are integrated in resort development are spelunking, scuba-diving, rappelling, crossing the zip line, and mountain-climbing.

NERBAC-Davao acting manager Lawyer Lucky Siegfred M. Balleque said of the total 30 projects, bulk 28 projects are located in the Davao Region.

Balleque said the biggest is the agri-tourism project in the Island Garden City of Samal which costs P800 million.

“The projects are actually an indication that tourism development is really among the top investment potentials in Mindanao especially in the Davao Region,” he said.

However, Balleque said certain infrastructures and facilities have to be established in order to complement the on-going tourism developments.

“One necessary infrastructure is the bridge connecting Davao City and IGACOS (Samal Island City). With this, the movement of goods and people will be much easier. This is an opportunity which the government and private investors can look into,” he said.

Dureza and Balleque encouraged everyone who is interested to partner with the proponents of the 30 projects to visit the Mindanao Tourism Investment Summit on August 22 at the Davao Convention and Trade Center along F. Torres Street, Davao City.

The Mindanao Tourism Investment Summit, which is a joint undertaking of the DTI and Department of Tourism (DOT), is part of the 4th Mindanao Travel and Tour Expo (MTTE) slated on August 20 to 22.

The 4th Mindanao Travel and Tour Expo is a multi-faceted and multi-event exposition of Mindanao tourism and related industries, anchored on the need to give greater importance on domestic tourism at affordable costs.

It also promotes travel within Mindanao’s best tourist destinations while enhancing the island’s position in the national and global market and creating tourism investment and employment opportunities. (PNA) LDV/DDB/lvp
