STA. RITA, Pampanga, Aug. 19 — President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo ordered the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Wednesday to allocate the necessary funds to immediately implement a road concreting project here.

The President issued the directive during her visit to Barangay San Juan here to personally inspect the status of the Bgy. San Juan (Macaba) road concreting project that is expected to address the problem of soil erosion and prevent the occurrence of flooding in the area.

To be built at a cost of P2.5 million, the road project is composed of concreting 345 linear meters of provincial road that will end at the approach of the Pampanga megadike.

It will take approximately 60 days to complete the road project and will be implemented by the local government unit of Sta. Rita, Pampanga in cooperation with the DPWH.

In an interview at the sidelines of the President’s visit, Presidential Deputy Spokesperson and Presidential Assistant for Region III Lorelei Fajardo said she expects the source of funds to be determined expeditiously since the amount was not that large.

“Wala pa ngang funding source (yung proyekto) but hahanapan po natin ito kasi di naman ganon kalaki yung requirement para sa project,” Fajardo said.

She expressed confidence that funds for this project would be released soon because once the project is completed, the benefits would redound to the residents and people of Pampanga. (PNA) LDV/OPS/ssc
