MANILA, Aug. 19 — A small fire broke out inside the SM City San Lazaro, causing tension to employees and customers in Sta. Cruz, Manila on Wednesday afternoon.

No one was reported injured in the fire that erupted at 12:35 p.m. inside the storage room on the third floor of the mall.

Manila Fire Marshall Felixberto Abrenica said the one-hour fire reached to third alarm before firemen put it out at 1:45 p.m.

Fire investigators have yet to determine the extent of damage.

Abrenica said they are still determining the cause of fire. Fire fighters were initially prevented to enter the storage room.

He said the fire could have been prevented much earlier had they been allowed entry to the storage room.

The official added that firefighters should not be prevented from entering any establishment in case of fire.

SM City San Lazaro Operations manager Roy Cabunag quickly apologized to Abrenica for the “miscommunication.”

Cabunag said the management only prevented the public from going back inside the said establishment. (PNA) DCT/vcs/JES
