MANILA, Aug. 18 — The inaugural Postmaster General’s Cup that tees off Wednesday at the Intramuros Golf Club in Manila aims to raise seed money for the country’s first Postal Museum that will serve as a showcase for the rich Philippine philatelic and historic heritage.

“We are one of the few of country’s that has yet to have its own Postal Museum, so Postmaster General Hector Villanueva thought this was a worthy project that the Philippine Postal Corporation (PPC) should have,” said PPC Assistant Secretary Louie Carlos in Tuesday's PSA forum at the Shakey’s UN Avenue branch in Manila.

Appearing at the session sponsored by Shakey’s, Accel, PAGCOR and Outlast Battery, Carlos, the fund-raising event’s tournament director, said that the Philippine Postal Museum would help preserve all the commemorative stamps that were printed over the years, among them marking 25th death anniversary of the late Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. and that of Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao.

“We hope that the Postal Museum will preserve these stamps for posterity and enable to the Filipino public to view them and appreciate the rich philatelic legacy that we have,” Carlos said.

Carlos added that the PPC hopes to raise an initial P500,000 for the building of the Postal Museum that will be build on the left wing of the Central Post Office at Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila.

He disclosed that the Australian architects who designed the famed Ayala Museum are also being eyed to design the Postal Museum.

Among the prizes at stake in the golfest are a P300,000 golf cart for the first hole-in-one on No. 10 while similar aces on No. 3 and No. 16 will net P50,000 in gift certificates from PAGCOR, which can be exchanged for non-cashable chips at all its outlets.
