MANILA, Aug. 14 — The meeting between President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and visiting Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva at the Bahay Pangarap in Malacañang Park this afternoon has been very cordial and warm, according to Press Secretary Cerge Remonde.

“The meeting, which lasted for 40 minutes, started with a welcome remarks by President Arroyo, followed by Premier Vejjajiva who congratulated President Arroyo for initiating economic cooperation between the Philippines and Thailand,” Remonde said in an interview with reporters at the New Executive Building (NEB) at 4:15 p.m. today.

Remonde said the economic cooperation between the Philippines and Thailand continues to grow despite the global economic crisis.

He said the Thai official expressed confidence that the medium- and long-term relationship can do more in terms of trade between the two countries.

Vejjajiva also informed President Arroyo that the Thai Cabinet has just approved the signing of an agreement on a rice purchase from the Philippines on a government-to- government basis, Remonde said. (PNA) scs/JCA
