MANILA, Aug. 13 — Acting Justice Secretary and concurrent Solicitor General Agnes VST Devanadera clarified on Thursday that the Le Cirque Restaurant in Manhattan, New York City is not that "very expensive" as being referred to by the critics of the administration.
The Le Cirque was the place where a lavish dinner was tendered by Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin as a token of gift for the 41st wedding anniversary of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and First Gentleman Atty. Jose Miguel Arroyo on Aug. 3, 2009.
The lavish dinner cost US$ 20,000 which was shouldered by the country's second richest congressman himself.
According to Devanadera, on the night that they took their dinner in the said restaurant, they also chanced upon a group of Filipinos who were celebrating a birthday party in the same place.
This, she said, would also prove that the Le Cirque restaurant is affordable and not as social or expensive as being described by the opposition.
She also did not confirm reports on the alleged expensive drinks ordered and served for the dinner.
Devanadera further said that they went to the Le Cirque due merely to an invitation.
However, she refused to name those who invited them to the dinner. (PNA)
