MANILA, Aug. 4 — The family of the late former President Corazon Aquino welcomed this afternoon two members of the Marcos family who came to pay their respects for the country's first woman chief executive who now lies in state at the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros, Manila.

Ilocos Sur Rep. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and his sister, former Congresswoman Imee Marcos — children of the late President Ferdinand Marcos — arrived at the cathedral at 2:45 p.m. to express their sincere condolences to the Aquino family.

Television host actress Kris Aquino, youngest daughter of Mrs. Aquino, thanked the Marcos family for their offering of prayers for the former lady president while she was still confined in serious condition last month at the Makati Medical Center.

Mrs. Aquino, wife of the late opposition leader and Senator Benigno Aquino Jr., became the country's 11th president after the 20-year Marcos rule was toppled by the peaceful 1986 People’s Power Revolution.

“Nandito lang kami para makiramay (We are here just to condole with the family),” the young Marcos said in a short message to the media.

The Marcos siblings left the Manila Cathedral immediately on board a Toyota Hi-Ace vehicle after media people approached them for interviews.

Mrs. Aquino, 76, died last Saturday, August 1. She will be buried on Wednesday at the Manila Memorial Park in Sucat, Paranaque City. (PNA) scs/JES
