MANILA, Aug. 3 –- Malacañang on Monday afternoon said it welcomes a Senate investigation on the reported withdrawal of security personnel for the late former President Corazon Aquino.

Cabinet Secretary Silvestre Bello III said they were at first unaware of the incident and added that President Gloria Arroyo also ordered an immediate probe on the matter.

Bello said during today’s press briefing the order was issued by President Arroyo who is cutting short her working visit to the United States in deference to the death of the acknowledged democracy icon.

Earlier Senate defense committee chairman Rodolfo Biazon said he is considering filing a resolution to look into the incident, saying all former presidents are entitled to security.

“We’ll look into that. I may have to file a resolution to get to the bottom of this," said Biazon, who served as Armed Forces chief of staff under Mrs. Aquino.(PNA)/V3/JCA/
