MANILA, August 1 – President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is now in New York City, New York, United States to endorse the Philippines as a perfect spot for more foreign investments.

The President is scheduled to meet with different business organizations to discuss possible investment in the Philippines.

President Arroyo is also scheduled to meet with Filipino Community in New York.

New York City is the most populous city in the United States, and the center of the New York metropolitan area, which is among the most populous urban areas in the world.

A leading global city, New York exerts a powerful influence over worldwide commerce, finance, culture, fashion and entertainment.

As host of the United Nations headquarters, it is also an important center for international affairs. The city is often referred to as New York City to differentiate it from the state of New York, of which it is a part.

But before proceeding to New York City, President Arroyo met with Nicola Goren, executive director of the Corporation for National and Community Service in Washington, DC.

The Corportion is the United States’ largest grantmaker supporting service and volunteering through Senior Corps, Americorps, and Learn and Serve America programs.

It provides opportunities for Americans of all ages and backgrounds to express their patriotism while addressing critical community needs.

The Corporation is similar to the Philippines' National Youth Service (NYS) program, launched by President Arroyo under Executive Order 788 in July in partnership with the National Youth Commission.

E.O. 788 aims to involve the youth ages 18 to 24 years old in the national service program through the National Service Corps (NSC) and Youth Conservation Corps (YCC), thereby engaging the youth in community action to mitigate the effects of the global economic crisis. (PNA)
