9 killed in landslides in Nepal

KATHMANDU, July 31 — At least nine persons were killed and four others missing in landslides caused by torrential rain in different parts of Nepal in the past 24 hours till Friday afternoon, local news website Nepalnews.com reported.

Five persons, four of them from one family, were killed in a landslide at Daunne village in Chitrabhanjyang Village Development Committee (VDC) in Syangja district, some 145 km west of Nepali capital Kathmandu, on Thursday night. The identities of the victims are yet to be confirmed.

In Tananun district, some 110 km west of Kathmandu, three persons of the same family died when landslide swept their house at Goredanda in Kinhu VDC on Friday morning. Babita Rasaili, 28, and her two daughters were killed in the landslide.

Likewise, one person was killed and four others have gone missing in a landslide in Raniban VDC of Dailekh district, some 360 km west of Kathmandu, on Thursday night. reports said. (PNA/Xinhua)
