KALIBO, Aklan, July 22 – The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is confident it can reach its P51-million collection goal for the month of July.

BIR-Aklan Chief Ricardo Osorio said collection for the month of June exceeded the goal by about P43 million. The collection goal was pegged at P39 million.

"The BIR national office mandates us to generate P660 million for the year 2009 and I continue calling on the taxpayers to pay their taxes honestly and on time," he said.

Report said at least 50 percent of the total collection of the BIR came from the booming tourism industry in Boracay.

Earlier, the BIR closed three large establishments in the resort island for failing to pay their taxes to the government.

Osorio said more establishments are under their lists for possible closure.

The BIR office in Kalibo is currently undergoing a tax mapping campaign as they announced the deadline of value added tax quarterly returns set on July 25. (PNA) LDV/JNA/vlo
