MANILA, July 16 -The Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) is set to hear next week the motion of the Department of Justice (DOJ) to admit former police Sr. Supt. Cesar Mancao II as a state witness in the Dacer-Corbito double murder case.

Noted publicist Salvador "Bubby" Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito were abducted and slain some nine years ago. Their charred bodies were found in a ravine in Indang, Cavite on Nov. 4, 2000.

Mancao is set to appear before the Manila RTC on July 22 in connection with the motion filed by the DOJ.

Mancao executed a sworn affidavit on Feb. 14, 2009 unravelling the alleged "brains" in the controversial case.

The DOJ filed the motion to exclude Mancao as one of the 21 accused in the case.

Mancao was a member of the defunct Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Task Force, headed by then Philippine National Police chief and now Senator Panfilo "Ping" Lacson, during which time, Dacer and Corbito were executed.

The National Bureau of Investigation has been providing protective custody to Mancao since his return to the country on June 4, 2009 after the successful extradition case filed against him by the Philippine government before the United States federal court. (PNA)
