Ilocos Norte town placed under state of calamity due to tropical depression "Gorio"

BACARRA, Ilocos Norte, July 11 — Municipal officials led by acting Mayor Jolamar Go declared this town under a state of calamity due to destruction caused by tropical depression "Gorio" which struck here Thursday and Friday.

Reports reaching the Municipal Disaster Coordinating Council (MDCC) said that at least 20 barangays of Bacarra had been under water due to strong rains spawned by "Gorio."

The MDCC reported that hundreds of families were displaced while at least 21 head of cattle died as a result of drowning due to rising floodwater.

The MDCC is still assessing the extent of damage to crops and properties.

Local officials are now conducting relief operations for the victims. (PNA)
