MANILA, July 8 — The cities of Beijing and Manila signed on Wednesday a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) bolstering their sister-city relationship by pushing for programs on education, culture, tourism, city management and legislature.

The agreement aims to further enhance the Sister-City Exchange Programs between Beijing and the City of Manila for the year 2009-2010.

The MOA was signed by Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim for the City of Manila, and Vice Mayor Ding Xiangyang for the People’s Government of Beijing.

Secretary to the mayor of Manila Rafaelito M. Garayblas attested to the signing of the memorandum.

Delegates from the People’s Republic of China paid a courtesy call on Mayor Lim and later proceeded with the signing of the MOA at 5 p.m.

Liu Qi, member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, was also present during the ceremonies.

The agreement states that "friendly relations between Beijing and Manila have been deepened through exchanges in culture and other areas of common interests since they entered into sister-city relationship in 2005." (PNA) scs/JES
