MANILA, June 23 -– The helicopter carrying Senator Francis Pangilinan made an emergency landing on Tuesday in an open field in Daet, Camarines Norte after encountering bad weather brought about by tropical storm ‘Feria.”

According to a statement from the senator’s office, Pangilinan and his unidentified companions were to go to Naga City to promote his Register and Vote campaign.

However, bad weather forced the chopper to divert its route and eventually land in Daet with all the passengers on board safe.

Pangilinan, a Liberal Party member, is one of the possible candidates for vice president in the 2010 elections, expressing earlier his intention to run as independent.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has placed already seven areas in Bicol under storm signal No. 2. These are Masbate, Ticao Island, Sorsgon, Albay, Samar, Leyte provinces, and Biliran.

The Pagasa also put under storm signal No. 1 the Camarines provinces, southern Quezon, Catanduanes, Burias Island, Romblon, Marinduque; Southern Leyte, Camotes Island, Cebu, Bohol, Northern Negros, Capiz, Iloilo, Aklan; Dinagat Island, Siargao Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Camiguin Island. (PNA)
