MANILA, June 10 — More than 300,000 jobs are up for grabs during the Kalayaan 2009 Mega Jobs Fairs to be held nationwide in celebration of the country’s 111th Independence Day anniversary this Friday, June 12.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo said earlier that government would forego this year’s P30-million Independence Day celebration and instead hold mega jobs fairs nationwide that started during the summer to help those displaced by the global financial crisis get employment.

The President will lead the Independence Day celebration at the Rizal Park in Koronadal City, South Cotabato.

In his weekly media briefing in Malacanang, Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said the biggest and widest jobs fair would be held in Luneta and other parts of the country on June 12-14 to be participated in by the government and the private sectors including overseas recruitment agencies.

Up for the taking are 52,880 job vacancies in government; 60,016 job openings in the participating private companies; and 200,293 overseas employment or a total of 313,189 job vacancies.

Participants in the mega jobs fair are 229 government agencies, 706 private local employers, and 399 overseas recruitment agencies.

During the briefing, Ermita said the President, in a letter, has extended her sincere appreciation to US President Barack Obama for his warm greetings on the anniversary of the Philippine Independence. (PNA)
