MANILA, June 8 — Senator Manny Villar will file a Senate Resolution commending Rubilen Amit for winning the just-concluded 2009 JBETpoker.net Women’s World 10-Ball Championship.

Villar, the foremost Philippine billiards godfather, rewarded the newly-crowned world titlist an automatic seeding in all legs of the island-hopping Villar Cup series.

“Rubilen’s victory did not just make us, Filipinos, proud. It also showed to the world, once again, how competitive the Filipinos are,” said Villar.

Amit, the 27-year-old three-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist, bested a tough and star-studded field of female cue artists from around the world, including an emphatic 10-4 victory over two-time world 9-ball titleholder Liu Shin-mei of Chinese-Taipei in the finals, to rule the event held at SM North Edsa in Quezon City and become the first Filipina billiards world champion.

Villar also commended the other Filipinas who competed in the tournament, including 11-year-old sensation Gillian Go, who joined Amit in the knockout stage of the event.

Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines (BMPAP) president Atty. Vic Rodriguez said that Amit will be seeded in all Villar Cup tournaments starting on its next leg in Bicol in July.

Amit will join former world champions Efren “Bata” Reyes, Ronnie Alcano and Alex Pagulayan, former world no.1 Dennis Orcollo and Francisco “Django” Bustamante, Warren Kiamco, Lee Van Corteza, Jose “Amang” Parica, Ramil Gallego, Gandy Valle, Roberto Gomez and Rodolfo Luat in headlining the cast of the prestigious island-hopping series presented by "Villards: Tulong sa Pagsulong ng Philippine Sports" and sponsored by Camella Communities.

Moreover, Rodriguez said that Villar will also support Amit and the rest of the country’s top cue artists in all their international campaigns, including the forthcoming 25th Southeast Asian Games in Laos.

Amit, who was kicked out of the national team last year, has expressed her intention to play in the biennial meet.

“I hope that with this victory I could also help the sport by inspiring the youth, especially the women, to get into sports,” Amit said. (PNA) FFC/vcs/jfm/PR
