President Arroyo visits Porac, Pampanga to attend to farmers' needs

PORAC, Pampanga, June 8 – President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo today led the groundbreaking ceremony for the rehabilitation of a water well and installation of water distribution pipeline for Barangay Hacienda Dolores here.
The President also distributed vegetable seeds, organic fertilizers and equipments to several farmers of Porac town.
Mrs. Arroyo arrived at Barangay Hacienda Dolores here around 10 a.m. and was welcomed by Mayor Rogelio Santos, Barangay Chairman of Hacienda Emilio Sarmiento and Porac Water District general manager Gil Manalastas.
The Chief Executive was assisted by Santos during the groundbreaking ceremony for the water well.
At 10:45 a.m., the President proceeded to Barangay Babo Pangulo also in this town where she was briefed by Col. Pedro Rieza Jr., Philippine Air Force 366th Aviation Engineering Wing commander, on the construction of the farm-to-market road worth P2 million.
Mrs. Arroyo also inspected the Kalayaan Barangay School Building worth P350,000 in Barangay Villa Maria, also in this town.
During the inspection, the President distributed 48 packs of vegetable seeds and organic fertilizer to 48 farmers of Villa Maria.
Four knapsack sprayers were also given to Eliazar Sital, Roman King, Lino Munoz and Arnel Camaya.
At about 12:30 p.m., the President arrived in Barangay Babo Sacan and inspected the Kalayaan Barangay School Building.
She also distributed 125 Pangulong Gloria Scholarship Certificates of Commitment for Porac residents.
At the same time, the President distributed 144 Philhealth cards and distributed certificate of award for one shallow tube well to Barangay Chairman Nestor Sarmiento.
A certificate of award of one unit tractor was also given to Barangay Chairman Wilfredo Villanueva.
Also, 6.5 horsepower portable shedders were given to farmers identified as Rafael Policarpio of Barangay Senora; Romy Mendoza of Barangay Planas and Oscar Yaya of Barangay Babo Pangulo.
The President also handed 35 bags of certified palay seeds and vegetable seeds and 30 boxes of Grow Plus Fertilizers to the Municipal Agriculture Officer.
Further, she distributed 10 knapsack sprayers to farmers Lucio Limiac, Gregorio David, Filemon Alvarado, Conrado Garung, Julio Serrano, Flaviano Valencia, Ronnie Mercado, Medrano Cortez, Ferddie Martinez and Sajid Basilio.
Santos recalled that the last time Porac communities were honored with a presidential visit was during the time of the late President Diosdado Macapagal, President Arroyo’s father.
Porac, which was among the most devastated Pampanga towns when Mt. Pinatubo erupted in 1991, had suffered difficulties in bringing back the productivity of its vast agricultural communities. (PNA) LAP/ps
