FLORIDABLANCA, Pampanga, May 27 — President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo distributed today (Wednesday, May 27, 2009) some P.9-million worth of checks to three farmer groups here to fund their livelihood projects.

The President was assisted by Floridablanca Mayor Eduardo Guerrero, Palmayo barangay Captain Alfonso Dizon and Labor and Employment Region III Director Nat Lacambra in distributing the checks worth P972,000 in simple ceremonies held at the Palmayo Municipal Annex here.

Of the total amount, P177,000 went to a group of 14 Apalit resettlement vendors, P695,000 went to 23 Floridablanca rice farmers and P100,000 went to the Buklod-Self Employment Assistance-Kaunlaran (SEA-K) of Barangay Gutud here.

The President urged the beneficiaries to use the funds properly and productively towards improving their livelihood and social lives.

Prior to the fund assistance distribution rites, the President visited the booths of private companies and government agencies led by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) which are participating in a jobs and livelihood fair at the resettlement site here.

Among the participating private companies are the Masipag Services Manpower Corporation, SM Supermarket and Department Store, and Trust International Paper Company based in Mabalacat, Pampanga.

Barangay Chairman Dizon said the jobs and livelihood fair offers great opportunities for the 3,447 mostly Aeta residents in the 85-hectare resettlement site that was established by the Mt. Pinatubo Commission after the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in 1991.

To soften the impact of the global economic slowdown on marginalized and vulnerable sectors of the population, the President immediately directed the implementation of the Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP) to generate close to 500,000 jobs nationwide.

After visiting the jobs and livelihood fair, the President had lunch with local officials at the adjacent Municipal Hall Extension Office in Barangay Palmayo. (PNA)
