Lupon “Scubasurero” launched

LUPON, Davao Oriental, May 22 -– Local officials of Lupon launched the Scubasurero (a combination of coastal and underwater clean-up) along the coastal area of Barangay Poblacion, Lupon, Davao Oriental last May 18, 2009.

The said activity is in line with the municipal celebration of the Farmers and Fisher Folks’ Month with the theme “Kabuhayan para sa Kaunlaran at Kasaganaan”.

The participants of this event are Bantay Baybay group headed by Mr. Aurillo Mahinay Jr, Barangay Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council member Myra Joy Poria, Department of Agriculture of Lupon, Aqua culturist Victor Romas, Asst. Regional Director BFAR XI Fatima Idris, Mayor Domingo Lim and ENRO PGO Mati Narciso Samar, fisher folk members in six coastal puroks and other local residents.

The 28th Infantry Battalion under Lt Colonel Ferdinand Lazaro D Budeng also participated the said activity.

A short program was conducted prior to the clean-up to include the blessing of the Poblacion Watch Tower.

About 100 families along the coastal area benefited the coastal clean-up.

The participants altogether consolidated and disposed a total of 30 sacks of garbage taken along the coastal area.

Lt Colonel Budeng said, “As soldiers, we are also bound to protect the environment.. Likewise, as Filipino citizens, maintaining a healthy environment is a civic duty.”

Meanwhile, Mayor Lim extended his deepest appreciation to all those who participated in the activity and he enjoined everyone to continue maintaining a healthy environment for the younger generation. (PNA)
