Negros Oriental propagates new fish species

DUMAGUETE CITY, May 6 — The provincial government of Negros Oriental is propagating a new species of fish called “Pangasius” with the arrival of 10,000 fingerlings from Nueva Ecija.

Gov. Emilio Macias II said Pangasius is on top of the Tilapia and Fresh Prawn production being propagated in the different Barangay Agricutural Development Centers (BADCs) and Government Agricultural Development Centers (GADCENTs) all over the province.

The 10,000 Pangasius fingerlings will be distributed in selected BADCs and GADCENTs to be identified by the Provincial Agriculture Office.

Macias welcomed the arrival of the new species in its efforts to strengthen the upland fishery component of the agricultural centers which has four components, namely, livestock and vegetable production, upland fishery and organic farming. (PNA) LAP/jfp/JG
