MANILA, May 3 — Press Secretary Cerge Remonde today thanked the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) for elevating him to the Hall of Fame, only the second media personality to be so honored after the late Ka Doroy Valencia, the noted columnist of the defunct Philippines Daily Express.

“I am deeply grateful to the KBP for making me a Hall of Fame awardee next to the late Doroy Valencia,” Remonde said.

A former anchor of the highly-rated DYLA Interaction, a prime news and commentary program, Remonde is the first to come from the ranks of the provincial media to become KBP chair, and the first to head the KBP for six terms.

Three days after President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo assumed office in Jan. 2001, he was appointed undersecretary of the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS) in charge of broadcast.

Under her new mandate in 2004, the President tapped Remonde to head the government mass media group (GMMG) which had overall supervision over government-owned media entities, including National Broadcasting Network (NBN) 4, RPN 9 and IBC 13, Bureau of Broadcast Services or Radyo ng Bayan Communication Services, and the Philippines News Agency (PNA).

Before his appointment as director-general of the Presidential Management Staff (PMS) in Oct. 2006, Remonde was the lead convenor of the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) in a concurrent capacity as GMMG head.

In January this year, President Arroyo appointed Remonde as press secretary vice Jesus Dureza who was named chief presidential legal counsel. (PNA)
