BORACAY ISLAND, Aklan, April 30 – Aklan Lone District Congressman Florencio Miraflores has cited the role of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in promoting Boracay Island as a top destination for both local and foreign tourists.

"The President is now the primary endorser of Boracay as a premier tourism destination. Because of her initiative of promoting the resort island, we are confident that tourists will continue to visit the resort island," said Miraflores.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) office in Boracay has registered more than 600,000 foreign and local tourists in the year 2008 despite the issues on climate change and economic recession.

"Because of this, we are confident that we could reach 800,000 this year and will be reaching one million tourists for Boracay in the year 2010," Miraflores said

The management of Zest Airways recently expressed intention to provide direct flights from Incheon, South Korea to the Kalibo International Airport in Aklan.

"I have been told by the management that aside from the direct flight to Korea, the Zest Airways is also planning to increase its domestic flights soon and the Aklan provincial government welcomes this development," said Miraflores. (PNA) scs/JNAguirre/vlo
