CEBU CITY, April 29 -– Renowned Filipino movie director Carlo J. Caparas has said he is entertaining thoughts of shooting a film on the life of Lapu-Lapu, the Philippines’ first hero, in Mactan Island.

Caparas said “Mactan” will be the title of the movie he intends to produce.

He said he will have a cast mostly from Cebu to make it more realistic.

The setting, however, is still to be decided because anywhere in mainland Lapu-Lapu City is already developed.

”Kung pwede nating madaya ang Olango Island, baka doon tayo mag-filming, kasi we need a place that looks very primitive,” he said.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Arturo Radaza said he will support Caparas if in case the director will push through with the project.

”It is good for Lapu-Lapu and we can instill in the minds of our young generation the life of our first hero,” he said.

Radaza encouraged Opongaons to be of good use in the current fight against global financial crisis.

Caparas witnessed Monday’s “Kadaugan sa Mactan” (Victory in Mactan), a reenactment of the famous Battle of Mactan on April 27, 1521, where Mactan Chieftain Lapu-Lapu defeated and killed Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan.

The Kadaugan sa Mactan was launched in 1979 by former Cebu Customs Collector David Odilao Jr.,originally naming it “Bahug-Bahug sa Maktan.”

A movie has been made about the Battle of Mactan starring Sen. Lito Lapid. (PNA)
