MANILA, April 24 – Philippine National Police (PNP) investigators have charged five policemen and 13 others, some of them barangay officials, for the murder of bemedalled Police Officer 2 Jamaron Sandag.

Charged were Police Officers 2 Borjan Jawali and Asmad Badlis; Police Officers 1 Said Wahid, Sukarno Adjod and Roderick Magsano, all assigned to the Southern Police District (SPD).

Ten of the 13 others charged were Aljon “Junjun “ Pawai Sala, Haron Gacao alias Pahambong, Gaini “Gani “ Wadja, Asman Amilasan alias Abuel, Salim Janihim, Ramili Wahid, Jahim Payao, Hadji Mobin Payao, Majid Adbulhaman alias Shariff Larudin and Gamar Janihim, the alleged mastermind.

Senior Supt. Isagani Nerez, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-National Capital Region (CIDG-NCR), said all of those charged remained at large but maintained they had enough pieces of evidence to pin them down in connection with Sandag killing.

“They are all part and parcel on the general plan to kill PO2 Jamaron Sandag, a recipient of Medalya ng Katapangan which is equivalent to Medal of Valor,” said Nerez.

“We are currently waiting for the result of the assessment of the Department of Justice on the case. As of now we are continuously gathering pieces of evidence in order to build an air-tight case against them,” said Nerez.

Based on the investigation, Nerez said that a clan war motivated the killing. The CIDG official said those charged had conspired and laid out the plan to avenge the killing of their relatives and kin by Sandag when he was still 13-years old in Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte.

Sandag was charged of the said case when he was already a policeman, rendering him a living out detainee at the Siocon Police Station.

Several armed men reportedly abducted Sandag from an apartelle in Taguig City last February. His decomposing body was recovered and positively identified last March 16 in a dumpsite in Rodriguez town, Rizal.

Sandag earned his medal when he defended Siocon municipal hall and police station from attacking Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels. (PNA)
