RoK to host first ASEAN forum on eminent persons

SEOUL, April 17 – The inaugural meeting of the ASEAN Regional Forum of Expert and Eminent Persons (ARF-EEPs) will kick off in the Republic of Korea (RoK) this week.

The workshop on Confidence Building Measures and Preventive Diplomacy in Asia, scheduled to open April 23 in Jeju Island, will cover a wide range of issues affecting the region.

Representatives at the meeting are expected to recommend appropriate strategies to enhance regional peace, security, stability and prosperity. They will also submit recommendations to the 13th ARF Ministers' meeting in Kuala Lumpur on July 28.

Ten ASEAN member countries, namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam and 27 partners, including China, Japan and the US will participate in the forum.

Founded in 1994, the ARF was the main forum for multi-lateral security dialogue and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. (PNA/VNA) vcs/utb
