LEGAZPI CITY, April 14 — The provincial government of Albay has launched the first “Gawad Albay sa Edukasyon” Tuesday, in recognition of a high level of performance identified and reflected in the most recent performance rating.

Dr. Ligaya Palcon, Provincial Coordinator for Education, said the “Gawad Albay sa Educakasyon” is a province-wide search for principals, teachers and students who exceed the average standards and soar high in the chosen field.

The performance awards system introduced by the Provincial Government through Education Quality for Albayanos (EQUAL) in year 2008 was an effective motivating factor to better performance.

Challenging competitions, recognition and responsibility gave self-fulfillment to students and educators.

The provincial government of Albay awards cash certificates, trophies, plaques, medals to achievers and high performers.

“These extrinsic rewards are reinforcing motivations that clearly recognize outstanding achievements,” Salceda said.

The four categories under the Gawad Albay are Students Excellence Award for Leadership (SEAL) which shall be given to student achievers in academics and leadership; Search for the Ten Outstanding Teacher of Albay (TOTAL), a continuing search for outstanding teachers in both public and private elementary and secondary schools; Search for the Three Outstanding Principal in the Countryside of Albay (TROPICAL); and LGUs Best Practices in Education (Kadunong), which will encourage LGUs to infuse education as the finest program that produces a lifetime of investment in the locality.
